A number of major foreign companies expressed their desire to participate in the reconstruction and technical modernization of the international sea port of Turkmenbashi, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) said. Various versions of reconstruction projects of the major "sea gate" of Turkmenistan developed by potential foreign partners were presented to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on October 30 as part of his working visit to Balkan province.
According to the TDH, having acquainted himself with the projects, the head of state "made a number of specific comments and suggestions for their further improvement." Speaking about prospects for development of the "sea gate" infrastructure, the president outlined the priority tasks such as the construction of new marine terminals with multi-functional berths capable of handling ships of any type and capacity, as well as warehouses fitted with powerful materials handling equipment for processing and storage of goods in transit and the implementation of export-import operations.
During his visit to the seaside, the Turkmen leader also spoke with industry veterans working in the sea shipping industry for many years.
